We recently hosted a series of conversations with leaders in the fields of employee experience, performance management and HR to discuss the impact of the most significant changes in work practices in over a century. We compiled the highlights, tips and tricks, frameworks and inspirational thoughts from the world’s foremost thought leaders in HR.

Fiona Buckley, from Steps to Success shared her insights about the three things we need right now:

“This is what I would say trust, autonomy and accessibility. These are the three exceptionally important things we need right now. It’s hard to measure trust. But you’ll know very quickly if trust is not there. If an individual trusts their manager or trusts their leader, then there is a trust culture in the organization. So people stop trusting organizations when it stops with the manager. And that’s the important recipe to look at here. Autonomy: If we’ve got a lot of leaders doing a lot of micromanagement at the moment and badgering people at home, we really need to be careful with that one. And then accessibility: Can people pick up the physical phones? How are we getting into, you know, getting into discussions with people? Are we looking at creative ways to make sure everybody is accessible? And are we accommodating people differently? I’m using the word reasonable accommodation a lot which anyone in HR will know is often used around disability and equality, but I’m using this word around virtual working. So are we reasonably accommodating people with things that they have going on at home? There’s three or four kids hanging off them at the desk. Are we putting reasonable accommodation in place for these people?”
